“Religious Matters: Women, Worship and Artifacts”
The Society for Early Modern Women (www.ssemwg.org/) invites proposals for a sponsored session at the Modern Language Association in Austin, Texas, January 7-10, 2016. This session approved by SSEMW (as an Affiliated Organization) is automatically accepted for the MLA convention. All participants must be members of both MLA and SSEMW by April 7, 2015.
We invite proposals for a roundtable exploring the interplay of material artifacts (relics, images, memorials and monuments, printed books and manuscripts) and early modern women’s religious practice in England and Continental Europe. Contributions from a variety of disciplines and national languages are encouraged.
The roundtable will consist of initial comments from five presenters (one of whom may be the organizer) followed by audience participation. Although comments may be presented formally or informally, each participant should provide an abstract describing his/her contribution.
Proposals must include:
– an abstract describing the objective of the roundtable (150 words max.)
– names of organizer(s)/chair and speakers; institutional affiliations; and email addresses
– one page CV for organizers and speakers (300 words max.)
– presentation abstracts (150 words each)
– specification of audio/visual needs
Proposals for individual contributions to the roundtable are also welcome.
Please send proposals by March 15, 2015, to Patricia Phillippy, SSEMW liaison with the Modern Language Association, at email@example.com.
